If you wan’t to build a successful blog, there are certain steps to follow.
Forget about the money for now…don’t even bother counting your eggs before they hatch.
For most bloggers, its going to take a long time and a lot of hard work…writing content!
Remember, right now you are on a blog…my how to make money online blog. Did I build this site with the aim of blogging for profit?
Did I create this blog for passion?
You bet I did.
Let me put it into perspective: you cannot just be blogging for profit without a passion in a niche.
Such a blog will not last long and will collect cyber dust until your website domain expires when you don’t renew it.
But when you are interested about a particular niche and you are blogging faithfully about it, its only a matter of time before you can make money.
And I consider myself a part time blogger because I don’t earn a full time income from blogging from my online websites…yet. That’s the way things are in my life at the moment and I’m not afraid to say that.
But regardless, blogging about how I make money online is something I enjoy doing and therefore I started this blog. And hopefully I’ll make money out from this blog as time goes on.
Now, truth be told, I’m not a online money making guru. I still have a lot to learn and I’m lazy like most of you are. I procrastinate too much to get things done online.
So this blog is also like like a personal income diary for me and I’ll be held accountable for things I say I would do and would not have done by a certain date.
I share what I do with the world and I’f I succeed, the world will see it and If I fail, it will be seen also.
Here are the 8 steps to blogging for profit online.
#1: BLOG ABOUT YOUR PASSION
I believe in blogging about your passion first and money is the “by product” of passion. What interests you so much? What are you so passionate about?
Can you blog about it? Then build a blog and start blogging.
You don’t really have to be an expert or and “A” student in English to become a successful blogger.
#2: KNOW WHO YOUR AUDIENCE IS
Do you know who your target audience is? Do you know their problems and their interests?
How is your blog going to address that?
Creating content around such problems and interests your target audience will ensure that you are presenting a blog that is relevant to the needs of your audience and this will only increase your blogs reputation and when this happens, your blogs gets talked about, linked to, shared and the end result is that you have free traffic heading back to you blog.
#3: CREATE AMAZING VALUE IN CONTENT
When you build a blog, you should aim for the stars.
What I mean is to really provide epic value to your audience.Write well written content that is really valuable for the audience. That means it solves their problems, it answers their questions, it entertains them.
You see, people love content that are educational, entertaining and inspiring: if you blog and create content using these 3, you are setting the foundation for future success.
#4: BE SIMPLE-JUST BE YOU
When you blog, don’t try to be like somebody you are not.
Just be you. Just write like you. How you think and talk, that’s the way you should write and express your ideas.
Don’t try to put too many fancy words that are meant for the lawyers.
Write like you are talking to a friend or someone in front of you…write in a conversation tone which means you need to put a lot of ” you , your and I ” in your content.
#4: MAKE THE STRUCTURE OF YOUR BLOG READABLE
If you have 10 sentences in a paragraph, you are really looking for trouble because its not edible and its “hard” to the eyes and its kind of looks really boring like seeing the type of clothes your mum and dad wore in the 60’s.
Make your paragraph with with 1 or 2 sentences.
Write your content in a way that people are able to scan it and to do this you need to:
- use sub-titles/headings withing the content
- use bullet points
#5: ENABLE SHARING
Enabling sharing buttons on your blog ensures that word gets out about your blog. This creates a loyal following.
Place social media buttons on your blog and make it easily shareable.
What this does is drives traffic as well as backlinks back to your site.
#7: PROMOTE YOUR BLOG
The following ways can all be used successfully to promote your blog:
- build and email list. So every time you create a new blog post, you email you list and you have instant traffic
- create facebook page and twitter account and other social media accounts and build up your fans and then promote your blog to them.
- form patners with other bloggers and consider guest posting on their blogs as well.
- use facebook ads, Google Adwords, Twitter Ads to drive traffic to your blog
#8: BE PERSISTENT
Only a few people can create a blog out of scratch and make it very popular within a month.
For 95% of us, it takes time.
Be consistent and persistent in your content.
You cannot write only a 5 blog posts and expert your blog to have millions of visitors and become very popular.
Think long term and continue to write and write…you just never know when you will hit it big.
HOW CAN YOU MAKE MONEY FROM A BLOG?
The most common ways blogs can be monetized are these:
- promote affiliate products
- create your own products to sell like ebooks.
I’m using adsense on some of my blogs and website I have. In my opinion, adsense is the easiest way to start making money immediately but it does take take a while to really get up there to make some decent life changing adsense income.
I am embarrassed to say this but my quest to become an affiliate marketing wizard with clickbank failed miserably when clickbank stole my affiliate commissions. You can read more of that story when you click that link.
When you create your own products to sell, you can either keep almost 100% of the money or if you like affiliates to promote your stuff, you have to be willing to give them a percentage cut off the sale price usually in the vicinity of 50-70%.
That’s how I made more than $9000 selling only one ebook. I kept 100% of the profits.
Now, that may seem like a lot of commission to give way but look at it the other way:
- you have an army of affiliates promoting your products and they do the hard work, not you.
- You will always be the one making the most money as an individual affiliate can only get “x” number of sales but you will have your CUT in EVERY sale that is made. In reality,if your product is successful, you may have to pay millions in affiliate commissions to all those affiliates and your own income from that product may seem small but you will be the one that makes the most money.
WORDPRESS BLOG THEMES
In my humble opinion, wordpress makes it easy to create blogs literally in minutes.
All you need to do is type in google like this: wordpress blog themes or free wordpress blog themes and click enter and you will have hundreds of free wordpress blog themes to chose from to create the blog you have in mind.
On the other hand, you can pay for premium wordpress blog themes and depends on how you want your site to look, there are lots to choose from.
Just go to google search and type what you are looking for.
The money is in the niche. And when blogging, there are generally two types of blogs:
- you can create a blog on a general niche topic
- or you can dive in deeper to a much smaller sub-niche within that general niche
Now, my make money online blog www.howtomakemoney-online.com is is pretty general. That’s because I’ve learn and earn income online selling ebooks, from adsense, flipping websites etc and I don’t want to restrict what I share with only one specific niche topic. That’s the big advantage of having a general niche blog…you can pretty much write about everything regarding that blog.
But that also causes a problems because because if the niche you have a blogging in is a huge general niche, you’ll have a lot of topics to write about in that blog and if you are a “one man show”, that’s a lot of content you need to write about. Or outsource the content creation part of the blog.
The second option is finding a smaller sub-niche is really good because, you really don’t have to write content about all the other stuff but just specifically around that topic of the sub-niche.
You become an expert in that sub-niche because you write more around those topics in that sub-niche and it also creates credibility and shows to people that you know what you are talking about.
But then if the sub-niche is quite small, you may also find that you may run out of topics to blog about as well. So to avoid that, you need to do your keyword research as well as having a good idea of what the search volume in Google is for that particular niche before you create your blog.
Its really pointless creating a blog about something when there’s no sufficient traffic looking for information on that niche. Keyword research and traffic volumes matter if you want to make money blogging.
At the end of the day, its really your choice if you want to create a blog about a large general niche or a much smaller targeted sub-niche. There’s really no right or wrong path to take. And a lot depends on how passionate your are about the niche topic.
HOW LONG BEFORE YOU START SEEING SUCCESS IN YOUR BLOG?
There’s no surefire way to find out. There are lots of variables involved in making a blog successful and a lot depends on:
- selecting the right niche (that pays well).
- how much time and effort you put into building up that blog…which involves creating content that visitors will love and continue to come for more
- marketing skills-you need to be able to create your own product(s) to sell on your blog as well or if not promote affiliate products. This also involves email list building for email marketing which is very effective.
- Building a successful online reputation to gain exposure and trust-and it takes time.
There are others which I can list but you get the idea…you just cannot create a blog and just 2 weeks later expect it to make money.
Well, I’ve read about others who have created successful money making blogs within a month but these kinds of stories are really few. Most blogs take time to grain traction…and eventually make money.
WHAT’S YOUR GOAL? START WITH THE END IN MIND
Some people start a blog just out of a hobby and become wildly successful. They never really have the end in mind when they started. Making money from their blogs just happened like that. They just picked the right niche, blogged about it for some time and…BANG! Success came like that!
Now, if you are starting a blog, you really have to think:
- in the future, what do I wan’t to achieve from this?
- Can I create a product that I can sell in the future?
- Do I have the create and email list now in the beginning so that I can have the opportunity to sell to my list when that time comes?
- How am I going to monetize my blog if it becomes successful? Adsense, affiliate sales, create your own product?
And then, learn from other successful bloggers online. Learn what they did to create successful blogs, subscribe to their email list for their tips and read their posts. Learn AND LEARN MORE! And apply the blogging techniques that work. Faith without action is dead. Similarly, Learning Without Applying the knowledge you have acquired is…heck, what do I call it? Dumb ass???
Blogging success comes when you copy what other successful bloggers are doing, but do it in your own unique way in the niche that you are blogging about.
You are you…you cannot be somebody else. The world needs your uniqueness even though your may blog about a niche that has been harassed a million times already.
At the end of the day, if you don’t mind me telling you, blogging for profit is a long term goal, but start now (today), money will follow later.
